Proper Jacuzzi Tub Care

Proper Jacuzzi Tub Care

Jacuzzi maintenance plays a key role in the longevity of your hot tub. A Jacuzzi tub can be a great addition to your bathroom- it’s like bringing the relaxation and rejuvenation of a spa into your own home! However, they can also be costly to repair or replace if not properly taken care of.  Here at American Plumbing, we advise all of our customers to keep up a simple Jacuzzi tub care regimen for their jetted tubs in order to prevent such complications. Keep on reading to see how simple it is to keep your Jacuzzi tub an investment to last a lifetime.

Daily Maintenance

American Plumbing recommends that the surface of your jetted tub is frequently cleaned just as it would be in a regular bathtub. This is important to stop residue build up from hygiene products and to prevent any mold or mildew from forming when the tub is out of use.  Any common household bathroom cleaner is sufficient at this point, so long as it is not abrasive. Abrasive cleaners can damage the surface of your tub, removing its protective coating and creating micro scratches -making it more likely for mold to occur. Remember to use a soft cloth when cleaning as a steel wool pad or coarse sponge will bring about the same problems.  A small amount of baking soda can be used to help remove buildup in tubs with accumulation problems. Also remember to clear the drain of any hair to prevent clogs. Cleaning the surface of the tub after each use is a great way to keep it sanitary and long-lasting, but is only half of the equation when it comes to caring for your Jacuzzi.Jacuzzi Tub Care

Cleaning the Jets

The jets are what make your Jacuzzi more than just a tub, but they can also create big problems if neglected. Regular cleaning will not be enough to remove the grime that can accumulate in the jets and pipes of the spa. But fear not! Cleaning the jets is simple and does not need to be done after every use- just every one to two months.  After cleaning and rinsing the tub as described above, fill the tub with enough hot water to cover the jets by two inches.  Add a combination of ½ cup to a cup of bleach and a few tablespoons of low-sudsing detergent to the water. It is important to use low-sudsing soap in order to prevent a foamy mountain from forming in your bathroom!  Now you can turn on the jets and let them run for ten to twenty minutes- depending on how long it has been since your last jet deep clean.  Small bits of dirt may flow out of the pipes and jets during cleaning, so it is important to rinse and run your tub with plain, cold water to drain this away and to clear any cleaning product out of the jets so that it does not run back into the tub when it is next used.  Now your entire jetted tub will be spotless and all set to use for the next couple of months.
